Ahí se hizo oficial el proyecto Chanology, con el que Anonymous se daría a conocer ante los ojos del mundo como un poderoso grupo de hackers dispuesto a declarar guerras cibernéticas a cualquier entidad que representara censura en las redes.
Su primer objetivo fue la iglesia de Cienciologia y su figura más representativa, el actor Tom Cruise. La razón: la presión de la iglesia por remover de redes un video interno filtrado en el que aparecía Cruise haciendo declaraciones fuertes. Así pues, cuando la guerra estaba declarada, Anonymous empezó a hackear sus páginas web, luego los computadores de sus representantes, con los que envió millones de correos broma a sus feligreses y hackeó luego las impresoras que se pasaron noches enteras imprimiendo miles de páginas color negro, entre otras cosas.

Este ataque fue motivado después de que se filtraran datos de que esta iglesia asistiría masivamente a la velación, funeral y entierro de los 26 bachilleres muertos en el tiroteo de la escuela primaria de Sandy Hook en Newtown. Hackearon las bases de datos de la iglesia, sabotearon sus comunicaciones y amenazaron con intensificar la ofensiva si continuaban con sus discursos de odio en estos delicados escenarios.
